In the Chinatown in Sidney, the participants of Chinese New Year celebration may number over 600,000 in the peak time. The festivities incorporate vibrant markets, food stalls in the street, parade in costumes, traditional opera performances, dragon and lion dances. Lantern and firework show are highlights in the whole observance. In China and in Chinatowns across the world, Chinese New Year is the biggest and most important festival of the year. Because Chinese months are organized by the lunar calendar, the dates vary year-to-year but always fall between January 21st and February 21st.
