In 2025 Vancouver celebrates the Lunar New Year with the 51st annual Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown. It’s an impressive event! The Year of the Snake begins on January 29th in 2025. Running since 1973, the parade takes place on the first Sunday after the start of the New Year. In 2025, consequently, that means the parade happens on The Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade, also known as the Vancouver Chinese New Year Parade, takes place on the Sunday after the Lunar New Year. In 2025 the 51st edition of the parade happens on Sunday, February 2nd. That’s a few days after New Year’s Day this year according to the lunar calendar. The 2025 Lunar New Year kicks off on Wednesday, Jan. 29, followed by the centrepiece parade in Vancouver’s Chinatown on Feb. 2, and wrapping up with the Lantern Festival on Feb. 12. Enjoy free Chinese New Year treat sampling, Year of the Snake-themed crafts, and Chinese board games. On Saturday, the museum will host a special Lunar New Year Cantonese storytime. On Sunday after the Chinatown Parade, people can celebrate at the museum with artisanal ice cream and balloon art.
