Chinese Zodiac and the New Year Chinese New Year begins a new zodiac year, cycling through 12 animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, and 2025 will be the Year of the Snake. Each year brings specific animal traits and elemental influences. Together, we can make Lancaster a cultural hub, celebrating diversity and fostering a vibrant community spirit. Join us in making the Lancaster Chinese New Year Festival 2025 success. What we'll deliver: Lions and Dragon parade; 10 traditional Chinese performances in the city center; National level Chinese performances in Lancaster; Stage and Cultural Variety Show in Lancaster Grand Theatre shares Chinese culture through high-standard performances at the Lancaster Grand Theatre for 2 hours. Performers from all around the UK are of national level, demonstrating professional Chinese performing arts to the residents of Lancaster. Since the date is based on the moon’s cycles with each cycle lasting about 29 days, the first date of the Lunar New Year varies each year, falling between Jan. 21 and Feb. 20 on the Gregorian calendar depending on the year. In 2025, the new lunar calendar begins with the first new moon on Jan. 29, marking the start of the Chinese New Year.
