In both 2023 and 2024, Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing attended the Chinese New Year celebrations in Yangon jointly organised by the overseas Chinese community in Myanmar and the Embassy of China in Myanmar. During the events, Mr. Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, discussed with Min Aung Hlaing on the designation of Chinese New Year as a Notably, two major events were held to mark Chinese New Year this year – a reception and a celebration – whereas only the celebration occurred in previous years.
