What is this year’s Chinese New Year animal? This coming year is the Year of the Snake, with previous Years of the Snake being 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2013. These are the largest Lunar and Chinese New Year celebrations outside of Asia. This year's event will take place on Sunday 2 February 2025 across Chinatown and the West End including activities in Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square, and a parade running from Duncannon Street, via Charing Cross Road to Shaftesbury Avenue. Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, always falls between late January and mid-February. In 2025, Chinese New Year falls on 29 January. The 2025 Chinese New Year festival in central London, organised by the London Chinatown Chinese Association (LCCA), takes place on 1 and 2 February. Where in London is the parade? The route of the parade is set to start on the corner of Duncannon Street and Trafalgar Square, before heading up Charing Cross road towards Shaftesbury avenue, The Chinese New Year yearly parade takes place across the West End, starting at Duncannon Street at 10am, up Charing Cross Road and down Shaftesbury Avenue, dispersing on Rupert Street around midday.
