Vancouver’s Chinatown . When and Where. Vancouver’s Chinese New Year’s parade happens in Chinatown from 11:00 am until about 1:00 or 1:30 pm. After the parade, from around 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, lion dances take place throughout the neighbourhood. The 2025 Lunar New Year kicks off on Wednesday, Jan. 29, followed by the centrepiece parade in Vancouver’s Chinatown on Feb. 2, and wrapping up with the Lantern Festival on Feb. 12. The Lunar New Year parade takes place in Vancouver this weekend, ushering in the Year of the Dragon with a vibrant display in historic Chinatown. Now in its 50th year, the annual tradition brings thousands of people together to ring in the new year with a colourful parade that winds its way through several blocks of Chinatown. Enjoy free Chinese New Year treat sampling, Year of the Snake-themed crafts, and Chinese board games. On Saturday, the museum will host a special Lunar New Year Cantonese storytime. On Sunday after the Chinatown Parade, people can celebrate at the museum with artisanal ice cream and balloon art. When: Feb.1 and Feb. 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Chinese New Year Parade takes place most years in Vancouver’s Chinatown on the Sunday after New Year’s Day from 11:00 am until around 1:30 pm. The parade goes up Pender Street, turns at Gore Street and then returns along Keefer. Vancouver’s Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) Parade returns on Sunday, February 11, 2024, starting at 11:00 am at the Millenium Gate (000 Block W Pender). The parade will head east on Pender until Gore, then take a right and proceed on Gore until Keefer, then take another right and proceed west on Keefer until the end point at Carrall.
