Vancouver’s Chinatown . When and Where. Vancouver’s Chinese New Year’s parade happens in Chinatown from 11:00 am until about 1:00 or 1:30 pm. After the parade, from around 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, lion dances take place throughout the neighbourhood. The Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade, also known as the Vancouver Chinese New Year Parade, takes place on the Sunday after the Lunar New Year. In 2025 the 51st edition of the parade happens on Sunday, February 2nd. That’s a few days after New Year’s Day this year according to the lunar calendar. The 2025 Lunar New Year kicks off on Wednesday, Jan. 29, followed by the centrepiece parade in Vancouver’s Chinatown on Feb. 2, and wrapping up with the Lantern Festival on Feb. 12. Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with a vibrant cultural display in historic Chinatown on Feb. 11. The parade starts at 11 a.m. at the Millennium Gate and winds through several blocks of Chinatown, with road closures and traffic alerts.
